Get creative during Culture Days

Posted on Wednesday August 29, 2018

Get ready to get creative: Culture Days weekend is only one month away.

Local artists and cultural organizations are ready to bring arts and culture to the community with a weekend full of workshops, live performances, exhibitions, painting, poetry and more hands-on activities during Culture Days from Sept. 28 to 30.

“The arts and culture scene in St. Catharines is very vibrant and Culture Days is a great way for residents to tap into the creativity and try it out for themselves,” said Kathleen Powell, acting cultural services supervisor. “Culture Days offers free activities for all ages.”

Free activities and events take place over three days at various venues across St. Catharines, including the FirstOntario Performing Arts Centre, the St. Catharines Museum and Welland Canals Centre, Brock University’s Marilyn I. Walker School of Fine and Performing Arts and Rodman Hall Art Centre.

Powell said Culture Days will showcase how arts and culture are woven into the fabric of the community, even in unexpected places: the Walker Family Cancer Centre and the Quartek Group are also offering Culture Days activities.

“Arts and culture have a larger influence on our daily lives than most people think,” said Powell. “Culture Days really shines a light on how arts and culture have shaped the personality of St. Catharines and the vibrancy they add to our community that makes it a great place to be. We encourage everyone to join us for an exciting weekend of free activities.”

St. Catharines joins more than 900 communities across the country in celebrating Culture Days with free activities for all ages. A full list of Culture Days activities in St. Catharines is available online at
